Prizefighter winner Michael Sprott to take on Roy Jones, Picks Haye over Harrison
The ‘Prizefighter’ competition is definitely a launch pad for bigger and better things. In terms of winners, the likes of Martin Rogan and Sam Sexton have gone on to pick up titles whilst Audley Harrison used the competiton to rejuvenate his career picking up the European heayweight title and now a heavyweight title shot aginst David Haye.
You can now add Michael Sprott to the list of alumni as the latest winner of the competition has used his new found fame to secure a bout with former pound for pound king and boxing superstar Roy Jones Jr.
Having won the competition after beating long time rival Matt Skelton, Sprott claims his camp are now in discussion with Roy Jones Jr for a bout in March next year as he told BoxRec:
“Roy Jones was in the UK for a few weeks and I caught up with him and his team. Currently the fight is being negotiated and I’m hoping for a target date of March next year.”
Yet whilst that fight is in the horizon, Sprott has his eye on events closer namely the domestic heavyweight title bash between Audley Harrison, who knocked Sprott out in spectacular fashion at the start of the year, and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye,
“Audley has a puncher’s chance, he will never outbox David. Audley will try to take Haye in to the later rounds and hope he gets tired. However, I think Haye will win in under five rounds. I would love to fight the winner and I’m open to offers.”
