Kessler withdrawal throws Super 6 into turmoil but solution maybe on hand
Mikkel Kessler has withdrawn from the Super 6 super middleweight tournament today with an eye injury. The Dane had been scheduled to take on Allan Green on September 25th in a final round bout of the competition’s first stage but the eye injury saw the WBC champion withdraw from the fight as well as the competition.
Kessler would have been able to compete in the early/middle part of next year but with the 3rd bouts of the 1st stage coming to an end now it would seriously delayed the competition which has already been plagued with delays due to injury. This is just the latest in a long line of problems the competition has face and with the Andre Dirrell/Andre Ward bout yet to find a location that too looks like it will be postponed.
With the competition looking like it may descend into farce, ESPN’s Dan Rafael has claimed that the organisers will possibly act quickly to save the competition by eliminating Allan Green who had zero points and bumping the Froch/Abraham & Ward/Dirrell bouts up to semi finals. This would cut the length of the competition but seems the most viable option at the moment.
