Former UFC star Kimbo signs with Gary Shaw, to make HW debut this year
Internet sensation Kimbo Slice has been handed a lifeline by Gary Shaw and is now set to try his hand at boxing having given up on his MMA career.
Kimbo came to public attention after a series of his backyard brawls became Internet hits and the fighter was signed to a mixed martial arts company. After that company folded Kimbo was invited to join the premier MMA company UFC but after losing his last fight to Matt Mitrione he was cut from the UFC.
But it appears Kimbo will get one more chance after Gary Shaw moved to sign him.
Quoted by ESPN, Kimbo said
“I feel like a baby all over again. I’m thinking about this at night. I’m gonna be a problem in the heavyweight division. I’m going to be coming in with a bad demeanor. I want to see what it’s like to break some ribs, break a jaw with one punch.”
Kimbo will be training with California based Clemente Medina with a view to be ring ready between October and December according to Shaw.
It remains to see how Kimbo will fare in a heavyweight division dominated by the Klitschko brothers. At 6ft 1 he is already at a disadvantage but as can be seen in his Internet videos he does have fight altering power, it just waits to be seen if this can be fine tuned.
