Pacquiao/Margarito set for WBC crown
Having failed to make a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr, Bob Arum has looked in house for Pacquiao’s next opponent, disgraced former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito.
Arum announced to Yahoo Sports and then Sports Illustrated that Margarito would be the recipient of a much sought after bout with Pacquiao. The fight will take place in November most likely on the 13th date set aside for the Mayweather fight and preliminary venues of Mexico, Las Vegas, Dallas and Abu Dhabi are being discussed.
To add extra spice to the fight, the two will be fighting for the WBC junior middleweight crown, vacated by current middleweight champion Sergio Martinez allowing Pacquiao to make further history as he seeks to win a title in a record 8th division.
Margarito is still yet to be granted a license to fight in the States following the hand wraps scandal prior to his fight with Shane Mosley in January 2009 but is hoping the Nevada state commission grants him a 1 fight exemption in order to take on Pacquiao but this is very unlikely.
