It’s been a couple of months since lost to Amir Khan at Madison Square Garden.

In the following months Malignaggi has had time to sit down review the fight as well as think about the future so we stopped in with the former junior welterweight champion to catch up on what he’s doing now and his future plans:

What have you been up to in your time off since the khan bout?

Hello, thanks for the interview. I’ve been relaxing just taking the time off hanging with my friends and family, just enjoying life. Starring in a show that comes out in January, I’ll be playing myself on a FX show. Trying to see where this Hollywood thing takes me also will be in a commercial that will be on MTV and ESPN. Just basically keeping busy, and having fun.

Is it right to suggest you contemplated retirement after the bout, what prompted that?

Yeah, I’m not going to lie it crossed my mind, but I had to go back and really think on what happened in the Khan fight and why. I cleared my mind, and I’m ready to continue on with my boxing career and hopefully get back on track again.

What was it that made you change your mind?

A few things changed my mind, I just really sat back and analyzed the whole Khan fight, he is a great fighter. My body just wasn’t built for 140 anymore, I need to move on from that weight class and move up in weight.

There have been suggestions that you are coming over to Europe to pursue your career as a welter and possibly go after the European title how is that going?

That is going great; that’s looking like what’s going to happen, I’m in the process of getting my boxing license in Europe, so will see how things go. But that’s the move the team and me would like to do.

The current champion is Matthew Hatton, brother of Ricky, what do you think of him and he is someone you would fancy your chances against?

Yeah, would be a great fight for the fans, Hopefully we can make that happen and see were things go.

There was a strong movement to have you fill the vacancy on HBO created by the departure of Lennox Lewis, is that something you would be interested in, in the future?

Yeah, eventually after I retire from the sport of boxing, I would like to fill a position like that.

Obviously Amir Khan is in the past but if I could highlight on the fight again, what surprised you about Khan?

Khan is just a young great up fighter; he has a great future ahead of him in this game. He is just a complete fighter and can’t wait to see him fight in the future.

I’m sure you are aware of the junior welterweight power struggle that is taking place, you’ve faced Khan but what are your thoughts on Alexander, Bradley & Maidana?

All great fighters, and they need to fight each other to find out who the real champ is at 140.

Who comes out on top of the 4?

Man, tough question… All great fighters, and that’s just something the whole world would have to see.

Well thanks for your time anything you would like to tell our readers?
