Cotto/Berto being discussed for the fall
ESPN’s Dan Rafael is reporting that a potential fight between WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is being discussed for a fall date.
Berto has no opponent scheduled in the near future and with Manny Pacquiao likely to be facing Antonio Margarito in November, Cotto has no dance partner either. There is no agreed weight for the fight as Cotto is campaigning at junior middleweight but can also make welter although a catch weight could be a possibility too.
Berto is coming off a 8th round kayo of Carlos Quintana in April, a fight in which he injured his bicep. He has been undergoing rehab for the injury and it is thought he will be ready for any potential bout by October whilst Cotto made his debut at junior welterweight in June where he took Yugo Foreman’s WBA title in a fight shrouded by controversy after Foreman sustained a knee injury but was implored to continue fighting by referee Arthur Mercante Jr.
