Having been made mandatory way back in January 2008 Alexander Povetkin will finally face Wlad Klitschko after K2 Promotions won a purse bid with a massive $8.3m bid, miles ahead of the nearest competitors Sauerland Events $4.25m bid.

Povetkin and his camp had been putting the fight off and since beating Eddie Chambers in 2008 Wlad has gone on to beat Sultan Ibragimov, Tony Thompson, Hasim Rahman, Ruslan Chagaev and Eddie Chamber but K2 promotion have until September to put the fight together and a September 18th date has been penciled in.

This puts an end to any speculation that Wlad would be facing WBA heavyweight champion David Haye next, as he will have to first get past Povetkin and then recuperate for a couple more months before he faces Haye.
