James Degale’s rise to the top has been meteoric.

Having picked up Olympic middleweight gold in 2008, the 23 year old won his first title, the WBA Intercontinental title, in his 7th fight beating Sam Horton in May.

Now the Olympian has set his sights on the domestic scene to prove he is the best in the country. Long time rival George Groves picked up the commonwealth title in April so Degale has his eye’s on the British title, telling Frank Warren’s official website:

“To be honest, I am the best domestically already. Me and (promoter) Frank Warren have had a chat and some names have been mentioned, a few of which are from the North West without giving too much away! But I know I can beat anyone out there at the minute domestically, and I will prove that by taking out whoever is put in front of me.”

Having spoken of the north west, Liverpudlians Paul Smith, who holds the British super middleweight title, as well as Tony Dodson and Tony Quigley all spring to mind.

Degale’s next fight is set to be announced soon so all 3 have been duly warned!
