Berto puts junior welterweight plans on the back burner

Andre Berto has shelved plans to move down to junior welterweight as he has ‘unfinished business’ at welterweight.

Berto had been linked with a move down to get into the thick of the action at 140 pounds but speaking on his personal Twitter page the WBC welterweight champion said,

iam gonna clean up the unfinished bizz division at 147

Berto’s last fight came against Carlos Quintana in April and despite the fact he injured his bicep early in the fight he scored an 8th round kayo. Despite his injury his performance drew mixed responses in boxing circles so big win over a big name would be ideal in his fight.

But now he has decided to remain at welterweight it begs the question who exactly will he face?

Mayweather and Pacquiao appear to be tied up with each other, Mosley’s future is still undecided, Paul Williams could come back down to 147 but only has eyes for Mayweather or Pacquiao, Cotto could remain at 154 pounds if he beats Yuri Foreman and beyond these names there isn’t anyone worth fighting.

Thus Berto faces a hard task raising his stock at welterweight.
