Pavlik passes on Martinez rematch, contemplates moving up
Having lost his middleweight crown to Sergio Martinez last month Kelly ‘The Ghost’ Pavlik has decided he will not exercise his rematch clause.
Pavlik had been struggling to make weight for the fight and trainer Jack Loew feels that his fighter may have now outgrown the middleweight division.
Loew says he and Pavlik have not reached a decision about their next move but it will not be a middleweight fight and that Pavlik,28, will probably move up to at least super middleweight where the competition is just as if not more fierce than at 160 or possibly even light heavyweight if Pavlik can not get any of the major fights at 168.
Speaking to the Youngstown Vindicator Loew said,
“I have no idea where we’re going, I really don’t. It could be super middleweight or it could be light heavyweight. A lot of the super middleweight fighters are tied up right now, so what’s attractive at that weight?”
