Audley Harrison’s hopes at a title shot may be put on hold after it was revealed that the European heavyweight champion ruptured his pectoral muscle in his victory over Michael Sprott.

Harrison fought the majority of the fight with one hand after injuring himself early and was behind on the scorecards when he scored a dramtic 12th round knockout against Sprott.

Harrison had talked of using his newly won title to get a world title shot against either Klitschko brother or David Haye but the injury, the second time he has had it, will rule him out of action for up to 4 months scuppering his immediate plans. Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Olympian said,

“I ruptured my pectoral, a total rupture. It ripped in the second round – I couldn’t use it (right hand) from then on.”
