Kell Brook looks to move into world title contention
On Friday English welterweight Kell Brook faces Poland’s Krzysztof Bienias for the WBO Inter-Continental title as well as the chance to become the mandatory challenger to current WBO welterweight champion and pound for pound king, Manny Pacquiao.
And although the unbeaten British welterweight champion has set his sights high, claiming,
“I’m looking at fighting the likes of Andre Berto, Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Miguel Cotto eventually.”
the 23 year old realises he is some way off that kind of opposition at the moment.
“Maybe I will have a few defences of the WBO Intercontinental title before I fight for the full world title. Maybe it’s a few years before I can fight the likes of Manny – but then I will be ready.”
But before Brook, who has stopped 13 of his 20 opponents and was Britain’s young boxer of the year for 2009, can even think of jumping into the deep depth of the welterweight division, he will need to get rid of Bienias on Friday.
