The Ricky Hatton merry go round looks like it has finally stopped with Hatton finally taking the decision to retire. It was reported on Sky Sports News this morning that Hatton, former junior welterweight champion of the world, would finally call time on his career after flip flopping between retirement and a comeback.

It is thought that Hatton came to the decision after starting a training camp with a view to fight later this year but realised that the spark had gone. His brother, welterweight Matthew Hatton, also remarked that it looked like he didn’t have the fire in his belly so it looks like he will not continue with a proposed return to the ring.

Hatton is said to be devastated and fears he will disappoint his fans having announced that he would return earlier this year but is equally worried that he will disappoint his fans even more if he returns and is defeated.

Hatton, a two weight world champion,  has not fought since being dethroned by Manny Pacquiao last May in devastating fashion with a 2 round kayo. He retires with a record of 45(32) – 2.
