Hatton eyes retirement
It appears that Ricky Hatton has abandoned his plans to return to the ring this year and will instead retire permanently.
The Hitman had announced earlier this year that he would make a comeback to the sport having been out of the ring since last May but he apparently revealed he has lost his desire to box to friends last week on a stag do in Tenerife.
Golden Boy Promotions had been looking at a bout between Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez this summer witha view to have the winner face the winner of Amir Khan’s bout with Paulie Malignaggi but Hatton’s decision looks to have derailed those plans.
Hatton, 31, has not fought since his devastating 2nd round knock out at the hands of Manny Pacquiao, the second defeat of his career and the second kayo. It was that defeat that left Hatton wondering if he still had the appetite for fighting and after a brief flirtation with a return it appears he will make an announcement sometime this or next week.
Hatton is a 2 weight world champion having held titles at welter and junior welter weight and retires with a career record of 45(KO 32) – 2 (KO 2) – 0
