Funeka/Guzman fight descends into farce

After weighing in 9 pounds over the 135 pound lightweight limit, Joan Guzman(29-0-1, 17 KOs) will not be facing Ali Funeka(30-2-3, 25 KOs) for the IBF lightweight title.

It was thought the bout would not go ahead full stop after Guzman failed to make weight for a fight for a second time but the two camps came to an agreement that as long as Guzman does not weigh over 150 pounds at a weigh in this morning then the bout will take place although only Funeka will be able to claim the vacant strap.

The fight is a rematch of last year’s controversial bout when many if not everyone clearly saw Funeka beat a bloodied Guzman only for the fight to be declared a draw.

This is the second time Funeka has found himself in this situation as Nate Campbell also failed to make weight against him last year although Campbell would go on to beat him.
