In the run up to their May 1st bout, Floyd Mayweather Jr has revealed he plans to break down opponent, WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley.

Mayweather, who normally goes into fights with a massive advantage in speed and reflexes, realises that he cannot rely on speed alone against the fast Mosley thus plans to use timing and what he feels are his superior boxing skills to overcome Mosley in Las Vegas.

Speaking to Ron Borges, Mayweather also claimed he has been criticised for fighting Mosley now he is 38,

“The thing is in the sport of boxing, like life, everything is timing, just like inside the squared circle. A lot of people need to realize in 1999 I was trying to make a fight with Shane Mosley when he was still undefeated. Now, five losses later, I got the bad end of the stick.

We’re a lot older now. I don’t know what he’s got left. He looked tremendous against Margarito but if I knock him out then it’s ‘He was supposed to knock him out.’ If I don’t then ‘He didn’t knock out Mosley.’ But I don’t care about the negative things people say. I’ll box. I’ll be smart. I’ll be me. I’ll break him down.”

The undefeated Mayweather last fought in September pitching a near shut out against Juan Manuel Marquez whilst Mosley’s last bout came against disgraced Antonio Margarito last January where he stopped the supposedly iron chinned Mexican. Mosley was scheduled to face WBC champion Andre Berto in a unification bout but following the disaster in Haiti, Haitian Berto opted to pull out after losing family members.
